So awhile back I was on one of the affiliate funnel conference calls, it was way too early for me to be up on a Saturday but I toughed it out. Alright so I missed 3/4 of the meeting, my silly alarm never woke me up. But what I did is I went on and then hung out until the end. I managed to slip in quick enough to get a few freebies.

That’s not the important part, what I did is stuck around at the end of the meeting and spoke to folks one in particular person that I spoke to was Vincent. Vincent runs vincentparker.net I invited him to join me on Skype and we talked about business plans, what he does, what I do. We talked about each other our cats, ect. Pretty much we became friends.

The important thing about network marketing isn’t a social website like Facebook where it’s popular. But meeting new people and bringing them not to you B list (customers) but bringing them to your A list (friends, comrades, ect). If you befriend someone, including your downline it helps you because even if they don’t buy from you, they will general share their secrets or success stories. By listening to them you can gain little nuggets of information, such as Google now taking page load times into page rank.

I suggested to him the basics on SEO to improve his website; bread crumbs for post and related post plug-ins. He in turn helped me out by pointing out a couple videos on topic I was researching, so I shared my twitter library to him free of charge (what I could at least). So what happened I didn’t make any money but I saved a ton on training videos that I can take and use for my business and at the same time helped him. By doing this little bit we became good friends, and due to that we both also get a sounding board. Many times we find it hard to open up and share with others, but by doing that and teaching each other we fast track our way to success. At the end of the discussion which I’m sure neither of us planned to talk for about 6 hours, there was almost too much information to absorb. I didn’t even bother to watch the video’s for a couple days because I had to absorb what we talked about.

I think the biggest thing that shocked him is I made a very simple statement, “Your YouTube video’s do not validate” and he pretty much responded the way most people do “What do you mean they don’t validate I got them from Google.” So I explained YouTube video’s are not compliant with the html standard they contain tags that are not considered normal. Then I went you know what I have a plug in for word press to fix them, he responded with I’d love to get that at some point. So I figured why not share it, it’s going into the library that I’ll be building anyways. I simply zipped the files, uploaded them and gave him the download link and explained how to use it. Then I recommended other plug-ins to him.

So I spent a couple hours marketing with him I got videos and gained the opportunity to be his friend, if he knows someone who needs programming or something I’ve done he’s likely to go “I know a guy who might be able to help, let me check.” He’s gained the opportunity to be my friend and I’m now going to point people to him and go he might help you with xyz.

See the true power of network marketing is making friends, not money. With friendship you gain so much more than a couple bucks. He’s been in this business longer than I have, so now I can go to him and ask hey bud you got a moment I have a new splash page I’d love to hear your opinion on. He’s more likely than a stranger to give me his thoughts, and with a stranger you’re not sure if he’s going to lie to you. Friends tell you “Hey man did you know that no script breaks your aweber responder?” strangers don’t they simply go “oh well that link didn’t work and move on.

I think I’m possibly rambling now, but its 12:29am here. So I’ll leave you with this piece of advice, next time you go to market take the extra step and make the person a friend if you can. The hours you spend may become more value to you than you can imagine. Again his site is vincentparker.net go check him out.

As one person told me, sometimes it’s not the special offers that will help you the most but the backroom deals that will make you succeed. In order to get the backroom deals you have to have friends, you don’t only want friends who know people but you also want to be the friend who knows people.

To your success!
